I once took a psychology class at summer science camp.

It was an epiphany that changed my life - I learned something which may in fact be true, but most people in society don't see it that way.

"NORMAL" is purely a mathematical term; it describes the big hump in the middle of the Bell Curve - its' where the "first standard deviation" is - it's where "most" things are when you grade them.

But it doesn't' tell you anything qualitative about what is being measured. If you're measuring Nazi SS soldiers, does anyone really want to be on the "normal" range of what they do in a typical day?

How about gang activities in L.A. or Chicago or New York - what is "normal" for their bunch is not what we hope to find in daily activity.

But in those environments, that's how it is. That's how this country is turning into Lord of The Flies. We're "normalizing" the stuff that used to make us call 911. We're bored with what used to be horrifying.

there isn't a hard bottom to that race, but we're getting there in a real hurry.
